Today, Chelsea have once again been linked with Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo and one pundit explains why it would be a good signing for the Blues.
David Ornstein has revealed that Todd Boehly and Jorge Mendes are in talks about bringing Ronaldo to Stamford Bridge this summer.
This comes after reports claimed that CR7 wanted to leave Old Trafford this summer due to not having Champions League football.
The Manchester United forward is thought to be keen on leaving Old Trafford, and while Chelsea are yet to make an official proposal for the player.
What is the latest news involving Ronaldo?
On Saturday, The Times reported that Ronaldo has asked United to allow him to depart if a satisfactory offer arrives.
The above comes after The Athletic also claimed that Boehly and Mendes, who represents the Portugal international, had met and discussed the idea of a switch to west London this transfer window.
Chelsea's interest in want-away Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo is no bluff. The Blues are serious and they have every intention of making his signing happen.
The Portuguese has been linked with Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and even Atletico Madrid since asking to leave Old Trafford, with some even linking him with a romantic return to Sporting Clube de Portugal.
Boehly wants a superstar
New Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is keep to sign a big name for his first arrival, and doesn't want to sign just anyone.
He is hoping to pull off something big, and few deals could be bigger than signing Cristiano Ronaldo.
He's also looking at Matthijs de Ligt, Raphinha, and Raheem Sterling, among others.
But Chelsea need someone to lead their line and Cristiano Ronaldo can do just that. They are also in need of a leader this summer, and the ex-Juventus man is also capable of filling that role.
United don't want to sell
Chelsea are keen, but Manchester United don't want to see the player, less so to a direct rival in the Premier League.
The player hasn't returned for pre-season training yet though, so far missing three days since the squad were expected back to work under Erik ten Hag's orders.
Chelsea might even be willing to offer players and cash for Cristiano, as they have offered Timo Werner to Juventus for De Ligt.
He wants out of Old Trafford, and he has no doubts. He wants to play in the Champions League, and he's willing to give up his status as the highest-earning player in the Premier League to make it happen.
He has communicated his intentions to agent Jorge Mendes, so there is still a lot of time left this summer for something to happen.
As well, it should be remembered that he was in a similar position at Juventus in the summer of 2021, and didn't leave until the season had already got underway and he even played for the Italian side at the beginning of 2021/22 in Serie A.
Ronaldo’s desire to continue competing in the Champions League is said to be the main reason behind his decision to request a transfer, with Erik ten Hag’s side set to play in the Europa League in the upcoming season following their sixth-placed finished last term.
While United struggled, Ronaldo was in excellent form during the 2021/22 campaign, scoring 24 goals in 38 appearances.
What has Romano said about Ronaldo to Chelsea?
Chelsea are yet to make any sort of offer for Ronaldo, but Romano thinks they could become a suitor following those talks between Boehly and Mendes.
When asked by GMS on Sunday which teams could actually try and sign the former Juventus and Real Madrid star this summer, the transfer expert said: “At the moment, I would mention Chelsea because it’s true Jorge Mendes had contact with Todd Boehly and we know Todd is taking care directly of all the transfers for Chelsea, so they’ve been offered this possibility to discuss about Cristiano.
“But Chelsea have not followed up with a proposal or something like this for Cristiano Ronaldo.”
Would Ronaldo take Chelsea closer to the title?
Aside from injuries, what probably cost Chelsea in the title race last season was their finishing.
In total, they scored 76 goals, while Manchester City and Liverpool registered 99 and 94 respectively (via WhoScored).
A forward of Ronaldo’s calibre and pedigree should fix that and take them much closer to the Premier League crown.
Cristiano Ronaldo to Chelsea. A phrase which not many Blues fans would have expected to see in this summer's transfer window. But in Todd Boehly's hunt to sign at least one or two marquee signings this summer in this £200million squad rebuild, the American is pulling out all the stops to ensure that manager Thomas Tuchel is going to be equipped in the best way for next season.
Manchester United's inactivity in this transfer window so far has caused the 37-year-old, just like the fans, to grow ever-frustrated with the ownership set up, who have just taken out another £11million in dividends. Consequently, Jorge Mendes has already offered United's iconic No. 7 to Bayern Munich this summer.
The Bundesliga champions rejected the opportunity to bring in the Portuguese to replace the Barcelona-bound Robert Lewandowski due to having already signed Sadio Mané from Liverpool. But now Chelsea could step in...
Now with his involvement in United pre-season seeming highly unlikely as it stands, the future is looking bleak for the six-time Ballon d'Or winner whose Premier League switch is becoming ever-more likely with Champions League ambitions at the forefront of his future decision-making.

Therefore, Chelsea automatically lead the race but former footballer, and now well-known pundit Steve McManaman has warned the six-time Ballon d'Or winner of the server consequences that could follow if he was to give the green light to a west London move.
"I'd be amazed if he went to Chelsea. Amazed. I can't see him going to another English team. I just cannot see it happening. It'll spoil his legacy after everything he has done at Manchester United," he told BettingOdds.com.
"PSG don't need Ronaldo. It just muddies the water. It might be a newspaper writer's dream to have Messi and Ronaldo in the same team three months before the Qatar World Cup, but come on, it just seems nonsensical."
